Scranton, PA – Marywood narrowed an early 5-0 deficit to a single goal before Centenary scored 11 straight goals to take control of the Pacers' home opener as the visitors cruised to a 20-7 victory in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Cyclones improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the PAC while the Pacers remain winless in four games and a 0-3 mark in conference play.
Centenary built a 5-0 lead just 5:04 into the contest before Marywood score four consecutive goals of their own to narrow the deficit to one after Allie Sodl (Coplay, PA) scored unassisted with 18:13 to play in the opening half. Genevieve Vidas (Old Bridge, NJ) got the rally started with an unassisted goal before Laura Gierman (Columbus, NJ) and Alanna Waldron (Liverpool, NY) tallied for the Pacers. Waldron also added an assist on Gierman's goal.
The Cyclones took control from there however, scoring the next 11 goals of the game and building a 16-4 lead with 19:21 to play in the second half. Kelly Kuzicki (Vernon, NJ) and Gierman netted goals for Marywood to bring the score to 16-6 with just over 15 minutes to play, but that is as close as the Pacers would come on the afternoon, as Centenary sandwiched four goals around Sodl's second goal of the game which was assisted by Shannon Gillen (Vernon, NJ)
The Cyclones' Lauren Feldman led all scorers with eight goals and one assist, while Michelle Garone added five goals. Megan Mars finished with four goals and three assists for Centenary, who held a 41-16 edge in shots over Marywood.
Marywood was paced by Gierman and Sodl who each scored two goals.
Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) played all 60 minutes for the Pacers and made 17 saves despite taking the loss. Clare Johnson picked up the win after making 7 stops.
The Pacers will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Eastern University for a PAC contest scheduled to face-off at 4:00 p.m.
