Neumann Prevents Sweep with 5-4 PAC Win

Scranton, PA - Neumann College rebounded from two losses to Marywood on Saturday by preventing the Pacers a series sweep as the visiting Knights topped the hosts 5-4 in PAC baseball action Sunday afternoon in Scranton.  Ryan Nason led the Knights witha  2-5, 2-RBI effort as Neumann improved to 2-16 (1-6 PAC) and the Pacers fell to 5-6 (2-1 PAC).

Down 1-0 in the third, Nason ripped a double to left to score George Hatton and Dave Draggone.  After Marywood tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth on a fielder's choice RBI by Matt Newcomb (Honesdale, PA), the Knigths plated two more in the top of the fifth on a Steve Marucci RBI sacrifice fly and a Raymond Schmoltze RBI single to right. 

The Pacers responded with two more of their own in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4, but Neumann's Sean Quigley got an RBI on an infield hit for the winning run.

Jonathan Nodolski picked up the win on the mound for the Knights after going six innings and allowing four runs on nine hits.   Art Wharton picked up the save for Neumann, his first of the year, after striking out one over the final three innings.  Nason, Marucci and Schmoltze all doubled for the Knights in the win.

Chris Shewack (Mountaintop, PA) led the Pacers offensively after going 4-for-4 with a double.  Korey Evans (Goshen, NY) went 6 innings on the mound for Marywood, striking out four and allowing two earned runs.  Jeff Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) took the loss after pitching the final three innings and allowing one run on three hits.  Cleary struck out two on the day.
