Scranton, PA – Visiting Eastern University scored the game's first nine goals on their way to a 19-2 victory over Marywood in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match-up Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles improved their record to 4-3 overall in 3-1 in PAC play while the Pacers see their record slide to 0-5 and 0-4 in conference play.
Eastern got four goals and an assist from Jesse Basch, a hat-trick from Katie Choquette, and two goals from Grace Griffith as the Eagles built a 9-0 lead over the game's first 25 minutes to take control of the game.
Marywood would finally break through with just 19 seconds to play in the opening half when Alanna Waldron (Liverpool, NY) scored off a nifty feed from Alexis Willey (Hummelstown, PA) to put the Pacers on the board.
Any hope of a comeback by the home team was quickly put to rest after halftime, as Brittany Wendler scored just 21 seconds into the second half off a Lindsey Moorsey assist, and the Eagles went onto score four more goals before Katlyn Fitzpatrick (Old Bridge, NJ) converted a free position shot with 20:56 to play in the game.
Eastern would get goals from five different players the rest of the way to complete the scoring.
Basch finished the afternoon with six goals and three assists for the Eagles, who out-shot the Pacers 30-7. Choquette finished with three goals, while Griffith and Erin Fries each added two tallies. Erin Reimel was the fifth Eagle to have a multiple-point game after registering a goal and two assists.
Carrie Glenn (Rifton, NY) had a strong defensive game for the Pacers, causing a game-high five turnovers while also picking up three ground balls.
Kimberly Campbell recorded two saves to pick up the win for Eastern while Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) took the loss despite making nine stops for the Pacers.
Marywood will return to action on Thursday when they visit Gwynedd-Mercy College for PAC contest scheduled to face-off at 4:00 p.m.
