BOX SCORE
Scranton, PA – Alanna Waldron and Allie Sold each scored three goals and Katie Sullivan made 15 saves, but it wasn't enough as Marywood dropped a 15-11 decision to Division II Chestnut Hill College in a non-conference women's lacrosse game Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Griffins improved their record to 3-9 on the season while the Pacers fell to 1-8.
The visiting Griffins took a 2-0 lead after the first seven and a half minutes of the game on goals by Maryanne Glass and Stef Paternostro, but Marywood would get one back 40 seconds later when Jen Silvestri (Warwick, NY) converted a free-position opportunity.
Chestnut Hill restored their two-goal advantage on tallies by Stephanie Carlyle and Tiffanie Stanton before Sodl (Coplay, PA) scored for the Pacers to bring the score to 4-2 with 17:10 to play in the opening half.
In what would become a reoccurring theme throughout the game, the Griffins stretched out a seemingly comfortable five goal lead over the next five minutes, only to have the Pacers make a run to narrow the gap to two, with Waldron (Liverpool, NY) scoring twice and Sodl once in the final ten minutes of the opening half to make the score 7-5.
Katie Donovan would score two critical goals for Chestnut Hill on either side of halftime, the first coming with 1:51 left in the first stanza and the second two and a half minutes into the second frame as she deflected a pass from Stanton past Sullivan (Merrick, NY) to give the visitors a 9-5 lead.
After Carlyle restored the Griffins' five goal lead just over a minute later, Waldron completed her hat-trick by scoring unassisted.
Goals by Kelly Kuzicki (Vernon, NJ) and Sodl brought the score to 11-8 in favor of Chestnut Hill with 18:40 to play, but Griffins looked to put the game out of reach by scoring the next three goals.
The proud Pacers would not go down without a fight though, and answered with three straight goals of their own as Katlyn Fitzpatrick (Old Bridge, NJ) scored twice and Kuzicki added her second of the day to bring Marywood back within three with 5:31 to play.
Marywood was unable to get any closer though, and Donovan iced the game with her fifth marker of the day with 1:30 to play.
Chestnut Hill held a 36-27 advantage in shots, while Marywood picked up 33 groundballs to the Griffins' 29.
Stephanie Jordan picked up the win for the Griffins by registering 11 saves. Sullivan took the loss despite turning aside 15 shots.
The Pacers will return to action this Saturday when they travel to Baltimore, MD to take on the College of Notre Dame in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference game scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
