Scranton Gets Past Marywood, 16-4

Scranton, PA – After Marywood and Scranton ended the first quarter tied at 1-1, the Royals outscored their cross-town rivals 6-0 in the second period on their way to a 16-4 win in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the University of Scranton's Fitzpatrick Field. Scranton improves to 10-3 with the victory and reached the 10-win plateau for just the second time in school history while Marywood sees its record slide to 6-3.
 
Phil Lindner scored unassisted for give the Royals the lead 4:09 into the game, but Ryne Boyle (Farmingville, NY) tied the game off a William Roerden (Warwick, NY) assist with the Pacers down a man with 3:38 to play in the opening frame.
 
The second quarter belonged to the Royals as the hosts got six goals from five different players to build a 7-1 halftime advantage.
 
Scranton would then add the first four goals of the third quarter to build an 11-1 lead before Boyle scored his second goal of the game off a feed from Jamie Beagen (Patchogue, NY) with 1:58 remaining in the period to halt the Royals' run.
 
JP Barton scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter for Scranton before Nick Parks (Emmaus, PA) tallied his 20th goal of the season for Marywood. After the Royals answered with three more goals, Beagen scored off an assist from Brian Roerden (Warwick, NY) to close out the scoring. 
 
The Royals out-shot Marywood by a 54-21 margin and held a 58-28 edge in groundballs. Scranton was 0-2 in extra-man opportunities while the Pacers were held scoreless in three chances with the extra-man.
 
Jeremy Dowiak made seven saves in 45 minutes in action for the Royals to pick up the win and Adam Gershowitz was credited with one save after replacing Dowiak.  Jesse Habich (Broomall, PA) took the loss despite making a season-high 20 saves for Marywood.
 
The Pacers will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Immaculata University for an important Pennsylvania Athletic Conference showdown. Face-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
