Reading, PA - Alvernia College used a pair of five-run innings in the fourth and sixth to break open an otherwise close game as the host Crusaders posted a 15-4 win over visiting Marywood University Friday afternoon in PAC baseball action.  The win puts Alvernia at 13-3 in PAC play (26-8 overall) while Marywood falls to 12-14 (4-8 PAC).

Alvernia scored 15 runs on 15 hits and took an early 3-0 lead after two innings of play.  The Crusaders then took command of the game with a five-run fourth.  After Marywood answered with one in the top of the sixth, Alvernia plated five more runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game out of reach.

Greg Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) dropped his second straight game on the mound for the Pacers.  The senior hurler completed five innings of work, allowing six earned runs while striking out five.  Cleary was replaced by Joseph Valvano (Katanah, NY) who threw for two innings and allowed six earned runs.  Alex Magid (South Salem, NY) pitched the final inning for Marywood, allowing two hits but no runs.

James Geosites led the Crusader bats with a 3-5, two-RBI effort.  Steve Burdan was 2-2 with three-RBI and three runs scored as well.  Senior Matt Heymann (Horseheads, NY) was 1-1 with an RBI and a run scored for Marywood, while Jason Bugno was 1-2 with two-RBI.

The two teams will do battle again Saturday in Scranton with a scheduled twin-bill.  First pitch for the opening game will be at 12:00 pm.  Saturday will also serve as Marywood's senior day.
