Scranton, PA – Visiting Cabrini locked up the top seed in the upcoming Pennsylvania Athletic Conference with an 18-5 conference victory over Marywood Tuesday afternoon in the Pacers' home finale. With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 11-3 overall and completed a perfect conference season (10-0). The Pacers dropped to 3-11 on the season and finish the year with a 2-8 mark in the conference.
Cabrini opened the scoring when Amanda Alexandrowiz scored unassisted at the 26:54 mark of the opening period, but Marywood would equalize four minutes later. Meg Barbarino (Binghampton, NY) fired a shot that was saved by Cavaliers' goalie Kate Schmid, but Jacquelyn Swallow (Richboro, PA) picked up the rebound and scored to knot the game at 1-1.
The Cavaliers regained the lead just 46 seconds later as Kellie Levy tallied an unassisted marker and the visitors would score the next three goals to take a 5-1 lead with 19:09 to play in the opening half.
Laura Gierman (Columbus, NJ) scored to bring the Pacers to within three goals at the 17:49 mark, but the Cavaliers responded by netting the next six goals to take an 11-2 lead late in the opening stanza.
Kelly Kuzicki (Vernon, NJ) got a goal back for Marywood before halftime as her free-position shot deflected through a mass of bodies that gathered to block her shot and trickled in across the goal line.
Cabrini quickly dashed any hopes of a Marywood comeback as Jaime O'Hanlon score two goals and set up another in the first three minutes of the second half.
Gierman netted one for the home side on a great individual effort at the 25:23 mark as she weaved through the Cavaliers' defense to tally her second goal of the game and 21st of the season.
O'Hanlon scored again before Alanna Waldron (Liverpool, NY) converted a free-position opportunity. The sophomore attacker now has a team-best 35 goals on the season.
Cabrini got two more goals from Alexandrowiz, who finished with a game-high four goals and two assists, and one from Erin Nollen to close out the scoring.
The Cavaliers held a commanding 41-14 edge in shots and a 41-30 advantage in groundballs.
Schmid made eight saves to pick up the win for Cabrini while Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) turned in an impressive 18-save performance in taking the loss. Sullivan is currently ranked 5th in the nation in saves per game.
Marywood will close out its inaugural season on Thursday when the visit Wilkes for a non-conference game scheduled to face-off at 4:00 p.m.
