Eagles Get Key Win, Top Pacers 15-6

Scranton, PA - Eastern University used three big innings en route to a key 15-6 win over host Marywood University Friday afternoon in Scranton.  The win puts the Eagles at 11-20 (7-9 PAC) while Marywood slips to 12-20 (4-10 PAC).  The Eagles took the opening game of a key three-game series between the teams and will host a doubleheader tomorrow in St. Davids, PA. 
 
After a scoreless first, Eastern got three runs on three bases loaded walks in the second to take a 3-0 lead.  The Eagles would then plate five more in the fourth to take commandas Davis Murray (West Simsbury, CT) belted a two-run double to left.  Marywood responded with two in the bottom half of the fourth on a Bill Hall (Lake Ariel, PA) two-run double to centerfield, but Eastern's bats remained hot and the Eagles added three in the sixth and four in the eighth to take the nine-run win.
 
Brian Miller (Havertown, PA) pitched a complete-game for teh Eagles, allowing 10 hits while striking out four.  The freshman hurler allowed four earned runs on the day.  Sean Ciletti enjoyed a big day at the plate for Eastern, going 2-5 with four RBI and three runs scored.  Ciletti belted a two-run triple in the sixth to pad Eastern's lead.  Four other Eagles finished with two RBI on the day.
 
For Marywood, Mark Granquist (Honesdale, PA) took the loss on the mound after allowing seven earned runs over 3 1/3 innings of work.  Joseph Valvano (Katanah, NY) pitched four innings of relief for Marywood, allwoing five runs on seven hits.  Jeff Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits.  Offensively, Hall and Matt Newcomb (Honesdale, PA) each had a double and two RBI with Hall going 1-3 and Newcomb finishing 2-4. 
 
Tomorrow's twin-bill will start at 12:00 noon.
