Scranton, PA - Senior Megan Haikes made the most of her senior day, belting a grand-slam in the nightcap of a doubleheader as Marywood swept Rosemont College 12-1 and 16-1 Friday afternoon in Scranton. The wins put Marywood at 18-18 overall and 8-10 in the PAC but more importantly keep the Pacers' hopes for a playoff bid alive. Marywood would likely clinch a playoff berth with a sweep of Immaculata Saturday.
Haikes (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) completed the day 4-4 with seven RBI. Haikes has enjoyed a standout year at the plate in her final season as the senior has shattered Marywood's single-season RBI record of 37 and now has 47 on the year with four games remaining. Marywood batted around the lineup in the first inning in both games, scoring nine times in the opener and twelve times in the nightcap to cruise to the wins.
Erika Cook (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley) finished the day 2-3 with a homer and four RBI. Cook tied Haikes' team-leading eight homers in game one before Haikes jumped back ahead of Cook with her blast in the nightcap.
Lauren Bianchetti (Highland Mills, NY/Burke Catholic) improved to 2-3 on the year with wins in both games on the mound for Marywood. Bianchetti struck out seven Ramblers on the day and allowed just one earned run and seven hits over two complete-game efforts.
Marywood fill square off with Immaculata University Saturday in Immaculata, PA for their final PAC regular game of the season. A sweep of the doubleheader would likely propel Marywood over Cabrini and Cedar Crest in the PAC playoff picture and give the Pacers the sixth seed. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
