Marywood Outlasts Wilkes in Slugfest, 20-15

Edwardsville, PA - Marywood University exploded for the first time offensively this season, scoring 20 runs on 18 hits, as the Pacers got past Wilkes University 20-15 in non-conference baseball action Thursday afternoon at Artillery Park in Edwardsville.  Marywood pushed across nine runs in the sixth inning to break open a close game and improve to 8-6 on the year.  The loss sends the Colonels to 10-8.


Jeff Cleary (2-1) picked up the pitching win for Marywood in relief of starter Joe Valvano (Katanah, NY). Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) went three innings and allowed three hits and five runs. Wilkes starter John Paul Palmer (1-2), who went two innings and surrendered six runs and three hits, was tagged with the loss. 
            
Joe Diskin (Clarks Summit, PA) had three singles and a double and scored four times for the Pacers. Jason Lane (Moosic, PA), who homered, had three hits. Matt Newcomb (Honesdale, PA) added two hits, including a homerun, and drove in six on the day. Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA), the third Pacer of the day who homered, and Shane McAndrew (Clarks Summit, PA) chipped in with two hits and three RBI's apiece. 
            
Wilkes finished with 14 hits as a team, including a double and homerun from Kyle Follweiler. Randy Dengler contributed a single and homer. Dwight Smith drove in three runs with a single and double, while Brad Woznisky and Mike McAndrew had a single and double each.

Marywood returns to action Friday when the Pacers visit Centenary College for a single PAC game.  First-pitch between the Pacers and Cyclones is set for 3:00 pm in Hackettstown, NJ.  Marywood will then host the Cyclones in a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
