Big First Half Carries Gwynedd-Mercy Past Pacers

Gwynedd Valley, PA – Gwynedd-Mercy built a 12-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 18-4 win over visiting Marywood Thursday afternoon in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference match-up.  With the win, the Griffins improved to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the PAC while Marywood fell to 0-6 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.

Colleen Dellostretto scored just 34 seconds into the contest and the Griffins would score twice more in the opening three minutes of the game to take an early 3-0 lead.  Dellostretto would score three more times in the opening half to lead Gwynedd-Mercy to a 12-0 halftime advantage as eight different players tallied for the hosts.

The Griffins would tack on two more goals early in the second half before Kelly Kuzicki (Vernon, NJ) got the Pacers on the board with 23:40 left to play by scoring off an assist from Alanna Waldron (Liverpool, NY).  Laura Gierman (Columbus, NJ) netted her eighth goal of the season at the 16:16 mark unassisted. 

After Gwynedd-Mercy answered with two goals of their own, Alexis Willey (Hummelstown, PA) scored unassisted for Marywood and Waldron closed out the scoring with a goal of her own with 3:03 remaining, the sophomore's team-leading 12th of the season. 

Nine different players scored for the Griffins, led by Dellostretto, who finished with a game-high five goals.  Gwynedd-Mercy, who held a commanding 32-6 edge in shots for the game, also got two goals and six assists from Meghan Volz. 

Trisha Timony picked up the win without making a save, while Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) made five saves in a losing effort.

The Pacers will travel to Aston, PA Saturday to take on Neumann College in a PAC contest scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
