Aston, PA - After being blanked by host Neumann College 8-0 in six innings in the opener of Saturday's PAC softball doubleheader in Aston, Marywood University responded with 17 runs in the nightcap, but it was still not enough as the host Knights answered the Pacers' bats with 20 runs of their own to take the slugfest 20-17.  The loss drops the Pacers to 10-10 on the year and 2-6 in PAC play.

In the opener, Neumann got two runs off an error on a Lauren Gallagher fly to left to open the scoring in the second and then plated two more in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the sixth for an 8-0 win.  Mallory Gable (Hughestown, PA) fell to 3-3 on the year after going the distance on the mound for the Pacers.  Colleen Regan and Erika Cook were the lone Marywood batters with a hit in the opener, as Regan (Endwell, NY) went 2-2 with two singles and Cook (Wyalusing, PA) was 1-3 with a double.   Angela Sebasto picked up the win on the mound for the Knights after striking out nine and allowing just three base-runners all game.

In the nightcap, Marywood's bats awoke but it was not enough as Neumann rallied for a 20-17 slugfest win.  Marywood opened the game with a 12-run first, but the Knights quickly responded with five runs of their own in the bottom-half of the inning to bring the game to within seven and knock-out starting Marywood pitcher Nikki Belles.  Marywood then went up 15-5 in the top of the second on a Megan Haikes (Scranton, PA) two-run double to center.  The Knights would again respond, this time plating six runs in the second off Lauren Monaco (Carle Place, NY) to make it 15-11 in favor of the visitors.

Marywood managed one run in the third on a RBI single by Cook, but Neumann also plated a run in the third on a RBI double by Caitlin Hanrahan to make it 16-12.  Marywood got their final run of the day on a Stephanie Ziemski (Lake Hiawatha, NJ) ground-out to short which scored Haikes, but Neumann answered again, plating two in the fourth and fifth and four in the sixth for the 20-17 win.

Gable again took the loss on the mound for Marywood to fall to 3-4 on the year.  Haikes was one short of the cycle as the senior went 3-5 with a home-run, double and single.  Marywood belted 16-hits in the nightcap.  Regan went 2-4 in the nightcap as well.  Cook went 4-5 with a homer, two doubles and an RBI.  Cook may have completed a cycle of her own but an apparent triple was overturned to a ground-rule double after the outfield fence fell down.

Marywood will look to rebound from the pair of losses Monday with an important PAC doubleheader at Gwynedd-Mercy College.  First pitch in Gwynedd Valley is set for 3:00 pm.
