Box Score

Scranton, PA - Marywood University plated 11 runs in the opening inning but needed two in the sixth and two more in the eighth to hold off visiting King's College 17-13 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon in Scranton.  Marywood improved to 10-8 while King's slipped to 10-12 in a game that was called in the bottom of the eighth due to darkness.

King's opened the scoring with a four-run top half but the Pacers responded by batting around in the bottom half of the inning and would plate 11 runs, nine of which came before the Monarchs could record an out.  King's would not give up, however, and responded with four more in the second and two in the third to cut the Marywood lead to 11-10.  After using two pitchers and getting only one out in the first, King's would get some consistency out of reliever Ryan Tychinski (Hazleton, PA) who pitched 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out three.

Marywood starter Stefano Curto (Coopersburg, PA) was also roughed-up as the Monarchs belted 12 hits and plated 10-runs on the freshman over three innings.  Alex Magid picked up the win on the mound for the Pacers after a solid relief effort, going five innings while allowing two earned runs on seven hits.

Chris Shewack (Mountaintop, PA) led the Pacers' offense with a 4-6, 5-RBI performance.  Shewack's standout day at the plate was highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run blast over the right-center fence in his second at-bat of the first inning.  Mike Castellano (Brooklyn, NY) was 3-4  with an RBI and three runs scored, while Patrick Diskin (Clarks Summit, PA) was 2-3 with three runs scored as well.

King's was led by John Venarchick who finished the game 5-6 and scored five runs.  Catcher
Matt Unger (Orangeburg, NY) who was 2-2 with 4-RBI.  Designated hitter Pat McGlynn (Plains, PA) was 3-5 with 4-RBI as well.  Tommy Rozelle (Vestal, NY) was charged with the loss on the mound for the Monarchs after allowing two earned runs on six hits over three innings of work.

Marywood returns to action Friday when the Pacers host Gwynedd-Mercy College in a key PAC showdown at 3:00 pm.
