BOX SCORE
Williamsport, PA – Jonathan Tejada scored a pair of goals separated by just 1:42 in the second half to help Marywood University overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit and drop Alfred University 3-1 on the opening day of the Lycoming Kickoff Classic.
Nick Schneider gave the Saxons the lead in the 30th minute when his long free kick from the right side eluded Marywood goalkeeper John Albanese, giving Alfred a 1-0 advantage that they would hold through halftime.
Marywood would equalize in the 61st minute when Anthony Roma (Endicott, NY) headed in a throw-in from Sean O'Day (Edwardsville, PA).
Nine minutes later, Tejada (West Harrison, NY) netted the first goal of his collegiate career by heading home a corner kick from fellow freshman Anthony Kapp (Duncannon, PA).
Tejada would not wait long to get his second collegiate goal, this time nodding home a throw-in from Nick Stoud (Gibson, PA) in the 72nd minute to give the Pacers some breathing room.
Albanese (Nanticoke, PA) made five saves on the afternoon including several quality ones in the second half to pick up the win in his first collegiate start. Elliot Thorpe and Christopher Desouza combined to make five saves for the Saxons.
Marywood finished the afternoon with a 17-13 edge in shots while Alfred held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Pacers will return to action on Sunday when they take on tournament hosts Lycoming College at 1:30 p.m.
