BOX SCORE
Scranton, PA – Anthony Roma and Lee Powers scored goals for Marywood and goalkeeper John Albanese stopped a penalty kick, but it wasn't enough as King's College picked up a 4-2 win Wednesday afternoon to spoil the Pacers' home-opener. With the loss, Marywood sees its record even at 2-2 on the young season while the Monarchs remain a perfect 5-0.
Marywood struck first in the non-conference tilt. Freshmen Brett Megee (Easton, PA) fired a shot from 18 yards out that King's goalkeeper Tim Kelly was unable to handle. Roma (Endicott, NY) found the rebound and hit the back of the net for his second goal of the season 10:25 into the opening half.
The Pacers' lead would last all of 17 seconds though, as Dan Carle's scored off a direct kick at the 10:42 mark.
Cameron Audette put King's in front in the 29th minute by converting a penalty kick after Marywood was whistled for a handball inside the box.
In the 37th minute, the Pacers were awarded a penalty kick of their own after Nick Stoud (Gibson, PA) drew a foul in the box. Lee Powers (Lock Haven, PA) stepped up to the spot and made good on his attempt to knot the game at 2-2 as the teams headed into halftime.
Just over a minute after the break, King's was awarded their second penalty kick of the contest. After getting a piece of Audette's earlier spot kick, Albanese (Nanticoke, PA) was able to keep Ryan Symons' shot out of the net, then recovered in time to deny Symons' rebound attempt to keep the score level.
The visitors would break through for good though in the 66th minute as Paul Racz took a feed from Mark Timko and beat Albanese to give King's a 3-2 lead before Audette added an insurance marker in the 78th minute by finishing off a rebound for his second goal of the match.
King's out-shot Marywood 18-6 including a commanding 14-2 advantage in the second half. The Monarchs also held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
Kelly picked up the win by making two saves while Albanese made seven saves in the Marywood net.
The Pacers will visit Lancaster Bible College on Saturday in a non-conference game at 1:00 p.m.
