Scranton, PA - Marywood University won two close games but visiting Misericordia University squeaked out a 15-12 fifth-set win as the Cougars improved to 6-3 on the year with a 3-2 non-conference win over the Pacers Monday evening in Scranton. Marywood, meanwhile, slips to 1-8.
Marywood took the opening set 29-27 before the Cougars rallied for a 25-17 win in the second game. The Cougars would go up 2-1 with a close 25-23 win in the third game before Marywood responded with a 25-21 win in game four to force a decisive game five. Down 11-4 early, Marywood rallied to within 11-9 before Misericordia escaped with a 15-12 win.
Michelle DiCicco had nine-kills for the Cougars while Alexandra Goble had eight. Amy Porambo had at match-high 22 digs for Misericordia, while DiCicco picked up five service-aces. Marywood had five players with seven kills each and Riona Corr had a match-high 26 assists. Lizzy Green added 13 digs for the Pacers, who return to action Wednesday night as Marywood hosts Rosemont College at 7:00 pm in their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match of the season.
