Edwardsville, PA - Marywood University opened the 2008 season with a 7-2 set-back against local rival King's College in women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at Kirby Park in Edwardsville. The Pacers got a #2 singles win from freshman Ashley Karli and a #1 doubles win from the team of Ryann Null and Jodi Balch for their only points of the day.
King's took a 2-1 lead after doubles play despite losing at one-doubles where Marywood's Null (Williamsport, PA) and Balch (Matamoras, PA) topped Christy Rossowski and Jilliam Tallarico 8-3. King's would win at one-singles and 3-6 singles to take command of the match and move to 1-0 on the year.
Marywood got their lone singles point from freshman Ashley Karli (Blandon, PA) at two-singles as Karli defeated Courtney Wilson 6-1, 6-1.
Marywood (0-1) will look to even their record when they open Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play Friday with a 3:30 pm match at Neumann College in Aston, PA.
