BOX SCORE

Clarks Summit, PA – Sean O'Day scored in the 56th minute to break a 1-1 tie and Chris Rodzewich added an insurance goal as Marywood notched a 3-1 victory over Baptist Bible College on a rainy Saturday afternoon in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener for both teams.  The win is Marywood's first in conference play since a 2-1 victory over Immaculata University on October 1, 2005.

Greg Dustin (Shrewsbury, MA) got the Pacers on the board just 1:44 into the contest.  Lee Powers (Lock Haven, PA) took a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that was blocked by a Baptist Bible defender and ricocheted to Dustin, who finished low to the far post.

Despite the early goal, Marywood struggled to maintain possession of the ball on the slick surface and the Defenders were able to equalize in the 37th minute as Gavin Gromacki took advantage of miscue in the Pacers' backfield and scored unassisted on a breakaway.

Marywood began to control the tempo of the match in the second half and were rewarded just over ten minutes into the second frame as Anthony Kapp (Duncannon, PA) drove a cross in from the left side of the field that O'Day (Edwardsville, PA) headed home to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Rodzewich (Shwenksville, PA) gave the Pacers some breathing room after taking a pass from Brett Megee (Easton, PA) and beating Defenders' goalkeeper Andrew Cartledge.

Marywood, who improved to 2-1 on the season (1-0 CSAC) held a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Jared El-Gayeh (Baldwin, NY) picked up his first collegiate win by stopping three Defenders' shots.  Cartledge took the loss for Baptist Bible (1-3, 0-1 CSAC) despite turning aside six Marywood shots.

Marywood will return to action on Tuesday when they host King's College in a non-conference match-up scheduled to kick-off at 4:00 p.m.
