Marywood Tops Baptist Bible, 74-60

Scranton, PA – Marywood University used a 15-3 run midway through the second half to take control of Thursday evening's Colonial States Athletic Conference game against Baptist Bible College on their way to a 74-60 win. With the win, the Pacers improve to 9-6 on the season and 4-3 in conference play while the Defenders see their record fall to 3-12 and remain winless in eight CSAC contests.

Marywood built a 16-6 lead over the first six and a half minutes of Thursday night's contest led by eight points from junior Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA). The Pacers would stretch their lead to as many as 15 points when Amanda Lass converted a lay-up with 6:29 remaining in the opening half, but Baptist Bible used a 13-2 run to cut the hosts' lead to 33-29 with 2:19 to play in the half.

The Pacers, who shot 45 percent from the floor in the opening period, held a 38-33 halftime advantage and where led by Green's 12 points and 6 rebounds. The Defenders were paced by Naomi Sweeney's 11 points.

Baptist Bible tied the game at 43-43 four minutes into the second half on a Heather Dodd three-pointer and would reclaim their first lead since early in the first half with 9:36 to play on a Dodd jumper, but the visitors' advantage would last all of twelve seconds as Green converted a lay-up to give Marywood a 51-50 lead.

Green's bucket started a 15-3 run that gave Marywood a commanding 66-53 lead with five minutes to play, lifting the Pacers to their second straight conference win.

Marywood's Green led all scorers with 23 points after connecting on eight of 16 shots from the floor and seven of 10 free throws. The junior center also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds to complete the double-double. Stephanie Fusaro (Bala Cynwyd, PA) added 13 points for the Pacers, while Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) chipped in 12 points in the win.

Dodd's 17 points led Baptist Bible, who shot 35 percent from the floor for the game. Sweeney finished with 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds, while Jessica Pollock was the third Defender to reach double-digits with 10 points

Marywood returns to action this Saturday when they host Rosemont College in a CSAC game slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. At halftime of the game, Annemarie Tichy-McCloskey, Class of 1999 and Kerri Ruddy-Archer, Class of 2000, will be honored for their induction in the Marywood University Athletics Hall of Fame.
