Clarks Summit, PA - Sidney Tharpe scored a season-high 38 points in 38 minutes of action to lead all scorers and propel Marywood University to a key 79-68 CSAC men's basketball win over local conference foe Baptist Bible College Thursday evening in Clarks Summit.  The win moves the Pacers to 7-4 (2-2 CSAC) on the year while the Defenders fall to 3-5 (1-1).

Tharpe (Victorville, CA) hit 12 of 29 shots from the floor while connecting on 5 of 13 from behind the arc and 9 of 10 from the charity stripe.  The junior transfer edged out Baptist Bible's Tom Waszaj for game-high honors as Waszaj scored 36 points on 11 of 20 shooting while also hitting 5 of 13 three-point attempts and 9 of 12 free throws.

Marywood took a three-point lead (35-32) into intermission following a 36.8% effort from the floor (14 of 38) in the opening frame.  More importantly, a stronger second half defensive effort limited the Defenders to 31% shooting from the floor in the second half (compared to 41.4% in the first) as Marywood outscored the hosts 44-36 in the final half. 

Junior Jerome Gosney (Binghamton, NY), who got his first start of the year, grabbed a team-high 13 boards and scored nine points while senior Prince Blacknall (Stroudsburg, PA) joined Tharpe in double-digits with a 13-point effort.  

Travis Wash had a game-high 16 boards (11 defensive) and eight points while Nathan Greve had 17 points for the Defenders. 

Marywood forced 16 Baptist Bible turnovers on the night while only committing eight.  The Pacers return to action Saturday night at 8:00 pm when they host Philadelphia Biblical University in CSAC play at the Insalaco Arena.
