Clarks Summit, PA – Stephanie Fusaro and Mariah Schaeffer each scored 20 points to lead visiting Marywood University to a 73-68 victory over Baptist Bible College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening. With the win, the Pacers improve to 6-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference play while the Defenders fall to 2-7 and remain winless in three CSAC games.
Baptist Bible held a 37-32 halftime lead before and the second half was evenly contested throughout. The Defenders' Naomi Sweeney hit two free throws gave her team the 68-63 lead with just under 3:00 to play, but Marywood rallied with a 10-0 over the final 2:44 of the second half to pick up their first conference victory of the season.
Caitlyn Ely (Montrose, PA) convereted four clutch free throws in the second half, converting a pair to bring the Pacers within one with 1:02 to play, then two more to seal the win with 12 seconds left.
The duo of Fusaro and Schaeffer combined for 40 of the Pacers points to lead the visitors to the come from behind victory as Fusaro (Bala Cynwyd, PA) finished the evening with 20 points after shooting 72.7 percent from the floor. The sophomore guard also pulled down six rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists.
Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) also finished with 20 points after connecting on nine of 13 attempts from the floor while grabbing a team-best seven boards. Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) was the third Pacer to hit double-digits after finishing with 11 points.
Marywood finished the evening shooting 51 percent from the floor and 72 percent from the free throw line, including an impressive 14 for 16 from the charity stripe in the second half.
Baptist Bible was led by a double-double from Heather Dodd, who finished the game with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Alysha Paladino scored 10 points for the Defenders, who shot just 37 percent from the floor for the game.
Marywood returns to the hardwood this Saturday evening when they host Philadelphia Biblical University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference battle scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
