Allentown, PA – Cedar Crest College picked up a 6-3 win in a critical Colonial States Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon to clinch a spot in the upcoming playoffs. With the win the Falcons improve to 12-4 on the season and 8-2 in conference play while the Pacers see their playoff hopes take a setback while falling to 6-6 overall and 6-3 in the CSAC heading into tomorrow afternoon's regular season finale against Rosemont.
Cedar Crest took a 2-1 advantage after doubles play as Maria Mallory and Alex Kuebler topped Marywood's Ashley Karli (Blandon, PA) and Lauren Fersch (Netcong, NJ) at #1 doubles 8-5. The Falcons duo of Sarah Wicks and Laura Shively scored an 8-6 win over Beth Schneider (Port Jervis, NY) and Lindsey Burke (Yorktown, NY) before the Pacers got on the board with an 8-6 win at #3 doubles by Kellie Coleman (Carbondale, PA) and Jessica Brogna (Pittston, PA).
Schneider picked up a win at #2 singles, 6-3, 6-4, over Kuebler and Nicole Siddall (Goshen, CT) was victorious for the Pacers at #4 singles, besting Shively, 2-6, 6-4, and 7-5.
With wins at #1, 3, 5, and 6 singles, Cedar Crest closed out their regular season with a win to clinch a spot in upcoming CSAC Team Championships.
Marywood will take on Rosemont College in the team's regular season finale at 12:00 p.m. needing a win to keep any chance at a postseason berth alive.
