Field Hockey Suffers Setback at Neumann

Aston, PA - After a scoreless opening half Marywood and Neumann combined for five second half goals with the host Knights coming away with a close 3-2 win over the visiting Pacers Tuesday afternoon in CSAC field hockey action.  Neumann improves to 5-5 (4-1 CSAC) while Marywood slipped to 4-8 (2-4 CSAC).

After a 0-0 deadlock at the half with the Knights slightly out-shooting Marywood by an 8-6 margin, the hosts got on the board just over 7:30 into the second half with a goal from Melissa Malick.  Malick's fourth tally of the year came on an assist from Melissa Hood.  Just over four minutes later, however, Marywood's Amber Mohrmann (Prompton, PA) scored on a feed from Brittany Beaton (Bethel, PA) to knot the game at 1-1. 

The Knights would rebound and score two goals within a minute and a half of eachother in the 61st and 62nd minute, however, to grab a 3-1 lead.  Megan Scott got her first goal of the season on a Kate Murphy assist at the 60:30 mark and Brianna Convery scored the eventual game-winner unassisted 1:05 later to make it 3-1.  The Pacers scored with :22 remaining on the clock when Beaton scored unassisted for her third goal of the year.

Neumann out-shot Marywodo 28-17 on the day but Marywood keeper Jamie Bowman (Cheshire, CT) made 16 saves to keep the Pacers in much of the game.  Sarah Alphin made 11 stops for the Knights.

Marywood returns to action Friday with a non-conference game at Hood College in Maryland at 4:00 pm.
