Immaculata, PA – Josh Hicks had a goal and an assist to help lead Marywood University to a 2-0 win over Philadelphia Biblical University in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers leveled their overall record at 6-6-1 with the win including a 4-1 mark in conference play while the Crimson Eagles fall to 5-9-1 on the year and 1-5-1 in the CSAC.
After a scoreless first half in which Marywood out-shot Philadelphia Biblical by an 8-2 margin, Hicks (Spring Brook, PA) put the Pacers in front in the 59th minute by running onto a ball played behind the Crimson Eagles' defense by Ryan Jones (Holland, PA) and one-touching it past goalkeeper Andy Ecker for his second goal of the season.
The Pacers would get some insurance in the 87th minute when Joseph Gulli (Forked Rivers, NJ) netted the first goal of his collegiate career. Hicks beat a defender in the box then slipped a pass to Gulli, who took a touch and slotted home the insurance marker to the far post.
Marywood finished the game with a commanding 23-4 advantage in shots and also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Jared El Gayeh (Baldwin, NY) made two saves, including an outstanding one with Pacers holding a 1-0 lead midway through the second half, to post his third, and Marywood's fourth shutout of the season. Ecker made nine saves in a losing effort for the Crimson Eagles.
The Pacers will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host defending CSAC champion Cabrini College at 7:00 p.m. in Scranton.
