Gwynedd Valley, PA - Marywood University rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to control much of the second half and eventually downed host Gwynedd-Mercy College 2-1 in overtime for a key Colonial States Athletic Conference women's soccer win Saturday afternoon in Gwynedd Valley.  With the win, Marywood extends their program record unbeaten streak to 11 games and moves into a first-place tie with Centenary College at 6-0-1 in CSAC action.  Marywood (10-2-1 overall) got the game-winner from senior Lisa Gavin just over four minutes into overtime.

Gwynedd-Mercy (8-7, 6-2 CSAC) jumped on the board with just over six minutes left in the first half on beautiful cross from the left flank from Amilia Garris that was flicked on by Gwen Conte and headed past Marywood keeper Meghan Coyle (Endicott, NY) by Meghan Bojanowski.  Marywood wasted little time responding as the second half begun, however, as Shannon Hresko (Gibbstown, NJ) sent in a direct kick from 30-yards out on the right side in the 55th minute that was mis-cleared by two Griffin defenders before senior Lisa Hanselman (Manheim, PA) ran through and put the ball in the back of the net to make it 1-1.

With a strong wind giving Marywood a second-half advantage, the Griffins survived several more attempts by the Pacers to put the game away in regulation.  After out-shooting the hosts 8-6 in the opening half, Marywood held a commanding 12-4 advantage in the second half, but could not put the ball past GMC keeper Kristie Pollock, who came up with several big saves including a point blank stop of Siobhan Blancaflor's (Haddam, CT) breakaway with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.

In overtime, the Griffins got the wind at their back and promptly earned two dangerous corner kicks.  Despite sending all field players into the box, the Griffins could not find the back of the net.  Just over four minutes into the extra frame, Blancaflor took the ball down the right flank and cut in, drawing Pollock off her line for an anticipated breakaway.  But Blancaflor swiftly cut the ball past Pollock and slid a cross in front of the goalmouth to a waiting Lisa Gavin (Woodbury Heights, NJ), who extended her left leg just as the ball reached the far post to find the game-ender.

Coyle finished the day with four saves while Pollock collected 12 in the losing effort.  Marywood returns to action Tuesday with another key CSAC game against Baptist Bible College.  Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm in Scranton.
