Scranton, PA - Marywood University fell behind early but rallied for a 5-4 win over visiting Susquehanna University in men's tennis action on a gusty Wednesday afternoon.  Marywood improves to 2-0 on the year while the Crusaders fall to 0-2.

After falling at No.1 and No. 2 doubles play, Marywood looked like they would get a point before singles action after Daniel Pfafman (Stratford, NJ) and teammate Ethan Jones (Lebanon, PA) grabbed an early 5-2 lead against Susquehanna's Alec Green and Grant Uber.  However, Green and Uber rallied for an 8-6 win to give the visitors a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Marywood promptly tied the match after a short rain delay with wins at No. 3-5 singles by Pfafman, Evan Bolus (Clarks Summit, PA) and Jones, respectively.  Bruce Osborn then defeated Marywood's Wyatt Nolan (Montoursville, PA) in a close match, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, giving the Crusaders a 4-3 lead while No. 1 and 2 singles play entered third sets.

At No. 2 singles, Greg Chilson (Mountainside, NJ) held on to defeat Rich Fitzsimmons 6-2, 6-7 (7-2), 6-1 after beign up 5-2, 40-love in teh second set.  Fitzsimmons would not allow Chilson to convert any of his match points and battled back for the second-set win.  Chilson's 6-1 win in the third set tied the match back up at 4-4, leaving the decisive match at No. 1 singles between Marywood's Todd Doran (South Windsor, CT) and the Crusaders' Mats Haaland.

The match between Doran and Haaland went down to a tiebreaker in the third set which was played in near darkness.  Doran dropped the opening set 3-6 but rallied for a 6-1 win in the second before battling for a 7-6 (7-3) win in the final set to give Marywood the 5-4 win.

"Overall, it was a terrific comeback victory for us with a great team effort all around" Head Coach Art Comstock said.  "The players showed a tremendous amount of resiliency and character to respond to the challenge of being down 3-0 after the doubles."
