Box Score

Elizabethtown, PA – Mariah Schaeffer converted a pair of free throws with 4.1 seconds remaining to give Marywood University a thrilling 70-68 over Elizabethtown College in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday evening. The Pacers, who overcame a 13-point first half deficit to win their season-opener, placed four players in double-digits points, led by Amanda Lass's team-best 17.

Elizabethtown would lead for the majority of the first half and stretched their advantage to 13 points when Kaity Snyder tipped in her own rebound with 10:36 to play to make the score 21-8 in favor of the Blue Jays. Marywood would spend the rest of the half chipping away at the deficit and Lauren Rogan (Archbald, PA) tied the contest at 35 apiece by draining a three-pointer with 2:25 remaining in the opening half.

Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) would give the Pacers a 37-35 halftime lead by converting a jumper with just three seconds before the end of the period. Lass (Brackney, PA) led Marywood with 13 first-half points while Rogan added 11 as the Pacers shot 44 percent from the floor. Megan Strohman and Courtney Kofeldt each had 12 points to lead Elizabethtown.

After the break, the Pacers stretched their lead to 48-42 on a Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) jumper with 14:08 to play, but the Blue Jays battled back to knot the score at 50-50 with 11:13 left on a Kofeldt three-pointer. Elizabethtown would stretch their lead to as many as four points over the next six-plus minutes before Marywood again tied the score on a Caitlin Ely (Montrose, PA) lay-up with 4:38 to play.

A Schaeffer three-pointer followed by a lay-up by freshman Arielle Chard (Woodstown, NJ) stretched Marywood's lead to 65-60 with 3:25 remaining, but again the Blue Jays fought back to level the score at 68-68 with 17 seconds to play on a Teanna Ziegler lay-up.

Following a foul by the Blue Jays, Schaeffer sunk a pair of free throws with four seconds left on the clock and Kofeldt's 15-footer clanked off the rim as the final horn sounded, giving Marywood the 70-68 win.

Lass finished the game a rebound shy of a double-double, ending the night with team-highs of 17 points and nine rebounds. Rogan and Green each finished with 13 points while Schaeffer contributed 11 points and five boards.

Strohman led all scorers with 22 points while Kofeldt added 18 for Elizabethtown. Ali Jury had a game-high 12 rebounds while Snyder pulled down 10 boards in a losing effort.

Marywood returns to action this Friday when they host Penn State Hazleton in a non-conference game scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
