Scranton, PA – Marywood University scored the first 13 points of Friday evening's non-conference game against Penn State Hazleton and cruised to a 74-29 victory over the Lions. The Pacers got points from 14 different players while improving to 2-0 on the season while the Lions remain winless in three games.
Marywood built a 13-0 lead over the first 3:17 of Friday evening's contest and would stretch their advantage to 26 points at 30-4 on an Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA) lay-up with 10:58 remaining in the opening half. The Pacers led 44-13 at halftime after shooting 51.4 percent from the floor in the frame and were paced by eight points by Lizzy Green. The Lions, who turned the ball over 21 times in the opening stanza, shot 23.5 percent from the floor.
The Pacers continued to dictate play throughout the second half and all 15 players were on the court for at least 10 minutes. Arielle Chard (Woodstown, NJ) had six second half points to lead Marywood, who finished the night with 23 steals, two shy of a school record.
Green finished with a game-high 11 points while Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) and Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) contributed 10 points apiece for the Pacers, who finished the game shooting 50.8 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from three-point range. Lass had a game-high seven rebounds in the win.
Penn State Hazleton was led by Tiffany Donnelly and Alyssa Meyers, both of whom netted eight points. Whitney Harrison and Kristen Roberts each pulled down four boards for the Lions in a losing effort.
Marywood returns to the hardwood next Tuesday when they host Wilkes University in a non-conference match-up scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in Scranton.
