Schaeffer, Fusaro Carry Marywood Past Immaculata

Scranton, PA – Mariah Schaeffer scored a game-high 25 points while Stephanie Fusaro added a double-double to lead Marywood University to an 80-66 win over Immaculata University in the Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Monday evening. The Pacers improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season while the Mighty Macs suffered their first loss and fell to 3-1.

Immaculata scored the first four points of the Monday's game, but the Pacers would take a 6-4 lead on a Fusaro (Bala Cynwyd, PA) lay-up at the 16:51 mark and stretched their lead to as many as 11 points midway through the opening period. The Mighty Macs battled back though and took a 34-32 mark with 1:03 to play on a Rachel Denis lay-up. The visitors would hold a slim 36-35 halftime lead.

Immaculata extended their lead to 42-35 on a Chrissy Esbensen field goal with 18:21 left in the second half. Marywood responded with a 14-8 run to claim a 59-50 advantage with 9:28 left on the clock. The Mighty Macs would come no closer than within 7 points over the remainder of the game as the Pacers sealed the conference win.

Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) finished with 25 points after hitting 9 of 15 field goal attempts, 2 of 3 three-point shots, and all three of her free throw attempts. Fusaro added 11 points and 10 rebounds while Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA) contributed 12 points and 8 rebounds for the Pacers.

The Mighty Macs were led by Chelsea McTigue's 18 points while Leah Kuczynski, Denis, and Kelly Brown all had 11 points in a losing effort.

Marywood returns to action on Thursday when they host Penn State Schuylkill in a non-conference game slated to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
