Pacers Suffer First Setback, Lose at Delaware Valley

Doylestown, PA – Delaware Valley College used a 15-0 run over a five and a half minute span in the second half to take control of a tight contest on their way to a 75–64 win over Marywood University on Thursday evening in non-conference women's basketball action, handing the Pacers their first loss of the season. With the victory, the Aggies improve to 5-3 on the year while Marywood falls to 7-1.

Delaware Valley would built a 22-13 lead over the first nine and a half minutes of Thursday night's contest, but Marywood responded with a quick 9-0 run to tie the score at 22-22 with 9:10 left in the first half on an Amanda Lass (Brackney, PA) lay-up. The host Aggies would reclaim their lead and stretch it to 38-31 on an Emily Soper jumper with 3:29 left on the clock, but the Pacers would score the final six points of the half to trail by a slim 38-37 deficit as the teams headed to intermission.
 
Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) scored 11 first half points to lead Marywood, who got eight rebounds in the period from Lass. Brittany Battinieri and Brittney Zimmerman each scored 11 points in the opening 20 minutes to lead Delaware Valley.
 
Marywood shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, but just 29 percent from three-point range compared to the Aggies, who hit 45 percent of their field goal attempts but were 6-11 from beyond the arc. 
 
The Pacers would take a 41-40 lead early in the second half on a Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) jumper with 17:59 to play, and the two teams would swap the lead several times over the next seven minutes with Delaware Valley's Jackie Shunkwiler tied the game at 54-54 with 10:48 to play, starting a 15-0 run by the Aggies that saw them extend their lead to 67-54 with 5:17 to play. The Pacers were unable to cut their deficit any closer then nine points down the stretch while losing for the first time on the season.
 
Delaware Valley's Zimmerman led all scorers with 22 points after shooting 6-9 from the floor including 3-5 from three-point range and converting all seven of her free throw attempts. The Aggies, who shot 43 percent from the floor for the game, got 16 points from Battinieri, 15 from Soper, and 12 from Kim Vennera.
 
Green had 21 points to lead Marywood while also grabbing nine rebounds, falling just shy of a double-double. Schaeffer finished with 13 points in a losing effort while Lass pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for the Pacers.
 
Marywood shot 44 percent from the floor, and was cold from the beyond the arc and at the free throw line, hitting just 23 percent of their three-point attempts and 55 percent of their free throws. The Pacers also turned the ball over 28 times.    
 
Marywood is off until after the holidays and will return to action on Monday, January 4th when they take on Arcadia University in a non-conference game scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in Glenside, PA.
