Aston, PA - For the second game in a row Marywood came up on the short end of a tight battle as the Pacers fell at Neumann University by a final score of 57-54 Monday evening in Aston.  The loss drops Marywood to 3-5 and 0-4 in CSAC action while the Knights improve to 4-2 (3-0 CSAC).  James Lavan led all Marywood scorers with a team-high 15 points.

Marywood controlled a tight and low scoring opening half and went into the break with a five-point lead, 22-17 after Tyler Reinhard (Highlands, NJ) converted a three-pointer with one minute remaining in the first stanza.  Back-to-back baskets by Matt Medici (Princeton Junction, NJ) to open the second half put the visitors up 26-17 but a three-pointer and layup by Neumann's Na'Sheed Linton got the hosts back to within four.

Toure' Wright would connect for the Knights to make it a two-point Pacer lead (26-24) before Linton would connect again from long distance to give the Knights their first lead of the second half.  Marywood's defense would shut down the hosts for the next 5:19 as the Pacers reclaimed the lead after a pair of John Foreman (Sleepy Hollow, NY) free throws capped a 9-0 run over that stretch, putting the visitors back up, 35-27.

With Marywood up 38-29, a traditional three-point play at the charity stripe by Linton got the Knights back to within six (38-32) and from there the Knights slowly chipped away at the Marywood lead, keeping the Pacers off the board for the next two minutes of action while climbing back to within one (38-37) on layups and free throws.

Neumann would reclaim the lead (40-39) on yet another Linton three with 9:34 remaining, but Marywood answered to go back up, 42-40.  A bucket and converted free throw on the foul by Lavan stretched Marywood's lead back to five (45-40) with 8:24 left, but Marywood would not convert another point until Lavan sank another free throw with 4:55 remaining.  Over that nearly four-minute stretch, the Knights used a 9-0 run to go up 49-45 and claim the lead.

Marywood tied the game at 51-51 with 2:59 left as Jacques Robinson (Tannersville, PA) drove to the hole for two of his three points on the night, but the hosts went up 53-51 on a pair of Ty Robinson free-throws.  A three-pointer by Lavan put Marywood up one, 54-53, with 1:26 remaining, but each team would miss subsequent three-point attempts and Neumann grabbed an important defensive board on a missed Reinhard three with 0:24 left.

Lavan finished with 15 to lead Marywood while Medici added 13.  Robinson had a game-high 17 points for the Knights while Linton finished with 14.

Marquise Boggs converted in the lane to put the Knights up 55-54 with :17 left on the clock and the Knights would force a turnover and convert two at the charity stripe to seal the win.

Marywood will return to action Saturday when they host Misericordia University at 3:00 pm at the Insalaco Arena in non-conference action.
