Pacers Use Big Offensive Output to Clinch Playoff Berth

Scranton, PA – Marywood University enjoyed is largest offensive output of the season and clinched a berth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs with a 104-89 victory over visiting Centenary College. The Pacers, who got a season-high 31 points from Amanda Lass, improved to 16-8 on the season and 10-5 in the CSAC while the Cyclones fall to 16-7 and 11-4 in conference play.

In Monday evening'sWBCA Pink Zone game, the two teams stayed within a single possession of one another until the 10:53 mark when Mariah Schaeffer (Bainbridge, NY) converted a lay-up to give Marywood a 20-15 advantage.

Centenary cut the Pacers' lead to 22-20 on a pair of Kristen Camuso free throws before Lass (Brackney, PA) scored 13 of the next 15 points for Marywood to help begin a 13-5 run by the hosts to end the half to help give the Pacers a 46-34 lead at the intermission.

Lass's 13 points of the bench led the Pacers, who shot 39.5 percent from the floor for the period and converted 9 of 10 free throw attempts.

The Cyclones hot 40.9 percent from the field in the opening stanza and were paced by Camuso's 11 points and Jen Vasta's 10.

Marywood stretched their lead to 17 points at the 18:21 mark of the second half on a Lizzy Green (Shenandoah, PA) lay-up.

The CSAC North leading Cyclones would chip away the Pacers' lead over the next nine minutes and would close to within eight points at 67-59 on a Vasta three-pointer with 9:37 remaining.

Centenary was unable to draw any closer though, as Marywood shot a hot 57.1 percent from the field in the second half on their way to their largest offensive output of the year.

Lass scored a season-high 31 points after making good on 8 of 13 attempts from the floor and 14 of 17 free throws. Green and Schaeffer each finished with 13 points. Stephanie Fusaro (Bala Cynwyd, PA) netted 12 points in the win, while Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) was the fifth Pacer to hit double-digits with 10 points.

While avenging an 83-69 loss to the Cyclones on December 1st in Hackettstown, NJ, the Pacers clinched a berth in the upcoming CSAC playoffs.

Vasta finished the evening with a team-high 29 points for Centenary, while Camuso ended the game with 23 points. Nikki Van Tassel netted 13 points while Marissa DiStasio was the fourth Cyclone in double-figures with 10 points.

Marywood closes out the regular season this Thursday when they visit Neumann College for a CSAC contest scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
