Aston, PA – Neumann College closed out the regular season with a 73-61 win over visiting Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Thursday evening. The Knights and Pacers each closed out the regular season with identical 16-9 overall records with Neumann finishing a game ahead of Marywood in conference play at 11-5.
The Knights held the pace for the first half. With Neumann up 18-16 at the 12:28 mark of the first half, the Knights went on a 19-0 run over the next seven minutes to take a commanding 37-16 lead. Neumann took an 18 point advantage into halftime.
Marywood started to chip away at Neumann's lead in the second half. The Knights held an 11 point lead, 60-49, with 8:31 left on the clock. The Pacers then went on an 8-2 to cut the lead to five, 62-57. But that is as close as they would get as the Knights allowed Marywood just four points in the final six minutes.
Brittany Whetts led Neumann with game-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Cecily Scavicchio scored a game high 19 points while Katie Young pulled down 10 rebounds for the Knights.
Freshman guard Marielle Thorsen (Belvidere, NJ) led Marywood with 13 points and nine rebounds while sophomore guard Stephanie Fusaro (Bala Cynwyd, PA) added 12 points and 6 boards in a losing effort for the Pacers.
Marywood will be on the road for Monday evening's first round playoff game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
