Marywood Notches Key CSAC Victory Over Keystone

Scranton, PA – Marywood University used a 17-3 run late in the second half to rally past Keystone College an pick up a 71-66 victory in a key Colonial States Athletic Conference battle on Thursday evening. With the win, Marywood improves to 13-7 on the season and 7-5 in conference play while the Giants slip to 13-6 and 7-4 in the CSAC.

The two teams traded the lead four times in the first ten minutes of Monday evening's game with Joshua Pena (New York, NY) putting the Pacers ahead 13-12 on a lay-up with 11:03 remaining before back to back three-pointers by Keystone's Ryne Luce started a 12-3 run that would put the Giants ahead 24-16 to play in the opening half.

Keystone would lead by as many as nine points in the first half and would go into halftime with a 39-33 after Chadli Charlot (Lake Worth, FL) finished off a three-point to bring the Pacers back within six.

Kenneth Hardnett led Keystone with 12 first-half points as the Giants hit 54.8 percent of their field goal attempts in the period.

Marywood's Prince Blacknall (Stroudsburg, PA) matched Hardenett with 12 points in the opening frame as the Pacers shot just 38.2 percent.

Keystone would take a 46-36 lead early in the second half on a Tercel Taylor three-pointer before Marywood responded with a 13-2 run culminated by a Pena lay-up that put the Pacers ahead 49-48 with 11:43 to play.

Keystone reclaimed the lead at the 9:44 mark on another Taylor trey. The visiting Giants would stretch their lead to 60-55 after Channing Woodall converted a pair of free throws with 8:08 left, but Marywood responded with a 17-3 run over the next 7:35 to build a 70-61 advantage with 2:34 to play.

Despite getting only a single point off a Sidney Tharpe (Victorville, CA) free throw over the final two and half minutes, the Pacers were able to hang on for the win, avenging an 80-59 loss to the Giants in La Plume on January 26th.

Tharpe finished with a game-high 18 points and rounded out a double-double with 12 rebounds. Blacknall added 16 points for the Pacers, who finished the game shooting 40 percent from the floor and converted 17 of 22 free throw opportunities.

Keystone placed four players in double-digits led by Hardnett's 14. The freshman forward added a game-high 16 points. Taylor ended the night with 13 points and Woodall added 12 for the Giants, who hit on just 25 percent of their shots in the second half. Malcolm Boone was the fourth Giant in double-figure after tallying 11 points and dishing out a game-high four assists.

Marywood returns to the hardwood on Saturday when the Pacers travel to Langhorne to face Philadelphia Biblical University.  Game-time is set for 4:00 pm.
