BOX SCORE

Langhorne, PA - Marywood University built an 18 point second half lead but had to hold off a valiant comeback effort from Philadelphia Biblical University as the Pacers escaped Langhorne with a 84-78 win over the Crimson Eagles Saturday afternoon in CSAC men's basketball action.  Sidney Tharpe led a trio of Pacers in double-digits with a game-high 31-point effort as Marywood improved to 14-7 (8-5 CSAC) with the win.  PBU remained winless in conference play (0-11) and fell to 1-19 on the year.

Tharpe (Victorville, CA) was joined by Prince Blacknall (Stroudsburg, PA) and Karl Anderson (Northampton, PA) in double-figures as Blacknall poured in a 23 points on the night and Anderson added 12.  Both Blacknall and Tharpe had 12 at intermission to give Marywood a five-point lead, 44-39.  Both teams had strong first-half efforts with the Pacers connecting on 51.5% of their shots (17 of 33) and the Crimon  Eagles hitting at a 50% clip from the floor (16 of 32).  The difference in the opening stanza was Marywood's seven three-pointers as the Pacers knocked down over half their 13 attempts from long-range.

Despite being down by 18 midway throught the second half, PBU never gave up and pressured Marywood into 15 second half turnovers.  PBU would pull to within three with 39 ticks left in the second stanza and would gain control of the basketball after one of Marywood's turnovers on the offensive end.  A missed jumper would force the Crimson Eagles to foul the remainder of the way and Marywood calmly connected on six of eight charity tosses down the stretch to ice the game.

Four players from PBU reached double-figures led by Bart McCardle's 22-point night.  Chadli Charlot (Lake Worth, FL) had a game-high nine boards for Marywood in 21 minutes of action.

The Pacers, who are riding a three-game win streak and have guaranteed the first above .500 season in program history, return to action Monday with a key CSAC matchup against Immaculata University.  Tip-off at the Insalaco Arena is set for 8:00 pm.
