BOX SCORE

Scranton, PA – Elmira College got four goals from Sarah Young and survived a second-half rally by Marywood University to pick up a 10-9 win over the Pacers in non-conference women's lacrosse action Sunday afternoon in downtown Scranton. With the win, the Soaring Eagles leveled their record at 1-1 while Marywood falls to 0-3 on the season.

Young opened the scoring just over a minute into Sunday's game and Lauren Mokes doubled Elmira's lead by scoring off a Georgia Markell assist just under five minutes into the game.

Taylor McKeown (Nashua, NH) got Marywood on the board with an unassisted marker 50 seconds later but the Soaring Eagles would take a 4-1 lead with 10:34 to play in the first half on goals by Markell and Meghan Pass.

The Pacers' Alanna Waldron (Liverpool, NY) sandwiched a pair of goals around a marker by Elmira's Hannah Shabanowitz, but Young would give the visiting Soaring Eagles a 6-3 halftime lead by scoring unassisted with 54 seconds to play in the opening stanza.

McKeown netted her second goal of the day just 48 seconds into the second half, but Elmira would score the game's next three goals, including two from Young, to build a 9-4 lead with 18:00 remaining on Young's fourth goal of the afternoon.

Marywood's Mary-Christine Vignola (New Market, MD) controlled the ensuing draw and fed Jacquelyn Swallow (Richboro, PA) who beat Elmira goalie Stephanie McClure for her first goal of the season.

McKeown completed her second hat-trick in as many games on a Waldron assist 21 seconds later. After Meg Barbarino (Endwell, NY) netted her first goal of the season at the 12:41 mark, Allie Sodl found the back of the cage after taking a feed from Ashley Cuprak (Coventry, CT) to cut the Soaring Eagles' lead to 9-8.

Elmira's Markell converted a free-position shot with 3:51 remaining to give the visitors a two-goal cushion that would prove to be pivotal after Marywood's Alexis Willey (Hummelstown, PA) scored 46 seconds later. The Pacers were unable to get another good look at the Elmira cage over the final three minutes as the Soaring Eagles denied the Pacers' bid for their first win of the season.

Marywood held a slim 30-28 edge in shots for the game while Elmira had a 40-35 advantage in ground balls.

McClure made nine saves in Elmira's net to pick up her first win of the season while the Pacers' Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) turned in a solid 15-save effort in the loss.

Marywood will open conference play this Tuesday when they take on Neumann College at the University of Scranton's Fitzpatrick Field. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
