Griffins Squeek by Pacers in CSAC Men's Tennis Action

Gwynedd Valley, PA - Gwynedd-Mercy College picked up their first Colonial States Athletic Conference win of the season, downing visiting Marywood 5-4 Tuesday afternoon.  The Griffins (3-2, 1-0 CSAC) got three crucial points by sweeping doubles action as Marywood fell to 4-5 (2-1 CSAC).

Gwynedd grabbed a 3-0 lead after three close doubles matches, including a close 9-7 win from Scott Campbell and Eric Trinkle at one-doubles over Marywood's Greg Chilson (Mountainside, NJ) and Dan Reynolds (Downesville, NY).  Two doubles was also decided by just two points as Marywood's Tim Franzone (Staten Island, NY) and Evan Bolus (Clarks Summit, PA) lost 8-6 to Jared Morgan and Lou Vessels. 

Marywood got back into the match by winning 1-4 singles paly, including Bolus's tie-breaker  win over Morgan, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).  Reynolds rebounded from a 5-7 loss in the opening set to win the last two 6-3, 6-4, but Marywood dropped fifth and sixth singles matches to end the comeback attempt.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when the Pacers face off against defending CSAC Champion Neumann College in Aston at 3:00 pm.
