Clarks Summit, PA - Marywood University pounded out 19 hits en route to their sixth win of the year but could not hold off a stingy Baptist Bible squad in the nightcap as the Pacers and Defenders split in non-conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Abington Heights High School in Clarks Summit.  Marywood (6-10) won the opener 12-5 but BBC (3-9) edged the Pacers 6-5 in the final game of their season series to prevent the sweep.

After finding themselves down 2-0 after one in the opener, Marywood reclaimed the lead with three in the third and extened their lead to 11-2 before BBC answered with three in the bottom of the sixth.  Marywood plated six of those eleven runs with a big top half of the sixth.  The Pacers would tack on one more in the seventh to make the final score 12-5.

Korey Evans (Goshen, NY) improved to 2-1 with a complete game performance on the mound for the Pacers.  The senior lefty had six strikeouts and allowed just six hits on the day.  Jeff Cleary (Parsippany, NJ) homered for the Pacers and finished the opener 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Matt Newcomb (Honesdale, PA), Joseph Valvano  (Katonah, NY), Mike Pinelli (Bristol, PA) all doubled for Marywood while Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA) had two doubles as part of his 3-5, 3-RBI day.

In the nightcap, Alex Magid took the loss on the mound after allowing three earned runs (six total) while striking out seven.  Matt Mowry got the win for BBC, pitching a complete-game, scattering eight hits and striking out three.

Mike Castellano (Brooklyn, NY) had two doubles for Marywood as he went 2-4, while Tim Freda (Westbury, NY) also had a double.

Marywood returns to action Sunday with another non-conference tilt as they visit St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn for a 12:00 pm doubleheader.
