BOX SCORE

Scranton, PA – Marywood University's man-down defense killed off 12 of Gwynedd-Mercy College' 13 extra-man opportunities and the offense took care of the rest as the Pacers opened Colonial States Athletic Conference play with a 13-3 win over the Griffins. With the victory, Marywood improves to 3-4 on the season and 1-0 in the CSAC while Gwynedd-Mercy drops to 5-5 and 1-2 in conference play.

Andrew Lozoskie (Forest Hill, MD) opened the scoring for Marywood at the 7:47 mark of the first quarter after taking a feed from Ryne Boyle (Farmingville, NY) before William Roerden (Warwick, NY) doubled the Pacers' lead just over a minute later by scoring off of another Boyle assist.

Jamie Beagan (Patchogue, NY) would set up George Downey IV (Palmyra, PA) and Roerden for goals to give Marywood a 4-0 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Gwynedd-Mercy's Steven Miner would score the only goal of the second stanza unassisted and the Pacers took a three-goal lead into halftime.

Following the intermission, Roerden would score his third and fourth goals of the game, both off of assists from Nick Parks (Emmaus, PA) before Parks added a tally of his own with 2:17 showing on the clock to give Marywood a 7-1 lead heading into the final period of the game.

With the Pacers a man-down, James Drescher (Davidsonville, MD) took a clearing pass from goalie Eric Luhrmann (Glen Falls, NY) and raced down the field to score the first goal of his collegiate career.

Marywood would tack on three more goals and held a commanding 11-1 lead when Dustin Sturdevant (Binghamton, NY) scored on an extra-man opportunity with 9:23 to play.

Thomas Stewart scored for the Griffins just 27 seconds later, but Marywood would get special-teams goals from Boyle (man-down) and Parks (man-up) within the next 1:22 of game time.

Gwynedd-Mercy's Stefan Hetland scored off a Nicholas Coan assist with 1:33 to play to break up Marywood's man-down defense's bid to a go a perfect 13 for 13 while playing a man short. The Pacers' extra-man attack finished the game with three goals in four opportunities.

Parks finished the game with five points on three goals and two assists while Roerden added four goals for the Pacers, who were out-shot 36-35, but held a 44-30 edge in groundballs.

Luhrmann was solid in Marywood's cage, making 19 saves to pick up his first win of the season while Gwynedd-Mercy's Kevin Hens turned aside 10 Pacer shots in a losing effort.

Marywood returns to action on Wednesday when they host Centenary College in a CSAC contest. Face-off with the Cyclones is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Scranton.
