Ninth Inning Woes Continue for Baseball, Pacers fall 14-7

Ft. Pierce, FL - For the second time in as many meetings Elizabethtown College rallied from a ninth inning deficit against Marywood to top the Pacers in non-conference action. In the season opener for Marywood on Sunday, the Blue Jays rallied from four runs down in their last inning to beat Marywood 10-9. Today, E-town did it again, concluding its seven-game spring break trip to Florida with a 5-2 record by scoring 10 runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Pacers 14-7. Marywood fell to 1-5 with the loss. Three of the Pacers' losses have come after they entered the ninth with a lead.

The Blue Jays (5-3 overall) trailed 7-4 entering the top of the ninth inning, but exploded for 10 runs on four hits, six walks and an error. Sam Heaps capped the rally with a bases-clearing double as Elizabethtown pulled out the win. Adam Sheibley scored four runs and stole four bases for Elizabethtown, while Heaps finished 2-for-4 with four runs batted in. Matt Reade added two hits and an RBI while Steve Shuleski went 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Anthony Heaps improved to 2-0 on the season for the Blue Jays by tossing two scoreless innings of relief, while Mike Siciliano (Whippany, NJ) took the loss for the Pacers after allowing four walks in the ninth.

Matt Newcomb (Honesdale, PA) was 4-5 with an RBI and Shane Miller (Scranton, PA) was 4- 4 with an RBI for Marywood, which scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead and held a 7-4 lead from the fifth inning to the ninth. Pacer starter Sam Webster (Coatesville, PA) overcame 10 walks to take a three-run lead into the final inning, but departed with a no-decision.

Marywood plays Lebanon Valley College at 12:45 pm today.
