Ft. Pierce, FL - Marywood University played just their second doubleheader of the young 2009 season Friday afternoon but had the same result as their first, splitting action with Bemidji State University as the Pacers move to 4-3 on the year.  Marywood rallied for a 7-6 win in the opener while the Beavers got their first win of the season with a 15-2 win in the nightcap.  BSU improved to 1-5.

Nikki Belles (Rome, PA) got the win on the mound in the opener for Marywood after a complete-game, seven inning effort.  The junior allowed six runs on 13 hits and struck out two.  Down 5-0 after four complete innings, Marywood rallied with a five run fifth then scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh to complete the comeback.

In the fifth, Kim Flanagan (Monroe, NY) led off with a single and advanced on a Miranda Sorber (Hunlock Creek, PA) single.  With two outs, both Caitlin Hadzimichalis (Harmony, NJ) and Colleen Regan (Endwell, NY) walked and freshman Kim Lope (Clifton, NJ) ripped a two-run single to tie the game up.  Regan finished the opener 2-4 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.  Lpe was 1-4 with that 2-RBI single, while Flanagan was 1-3 with two runs scored.

In the nightcap, the Beavers, who had 13 hits in the opener, continued to punish Marywood pitching, but this time plated 15 runs on 14 hits.  Jessie Mehaffy (Lisbon, NY) took the loss on the mound after going 2.2 innings.  Mehaffy allowed 12 runs on 11 hits and walked five batters.  Mallory Gable (Hughestown, PA), who is 2-0 as a starter for the Pacers, came on in relief to pitch the final 2.1 innings.  Gable allowed three runs on three hits and struck out two.

Regan was 1-3 with a run scored in the nightcap while Brittany Davis (Scranton, PA) was 1-1 with an RBI double.  Fellow Scrantonian Melissa Brodt had a pinch hit single as well for the Pacers.

Marywood closes out their Florida spring break action later tonight as the Pacers take on Northwestern College at 8:00 pm.  Marywood defeated the Eagles 16-7 yesterday.
