BOX SCORE

Hilton Head, SC - Eastern University survived a 5 1/2 hour marathon match to escape with a 5-4 win over Marywood University Friday morning as the Pacers wrapped up their annual spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.  The Pacers fall to 2-3 on the year while the Eagles win their first contest of the spring and stand at 1-0 overall.

In a match that started at 9:00am and ended just after 2:30pm, three of the six singles matches went to three sets and the one-doubles battle went to a tie-breaker as well.  In that doubles matchup, Eastern's team of Jordan Gates and Bryan Arnett out-lasted Marywood's top team of Greg Chilson (Mountainside, NJ) and Dan Reynolds (Downsville, NY) 9-8 after winning the tie-breaker 9-7.  Marywood rebounded with a win at two-doubles as Evan Bolus (Clarks Summit, PA) and Tim Franzone (Staten Island, NY) defeated Taylor Kiser and Sean McGuinness 8-4, but the Eagles responded with an 8-5 win at three-doubles to reclaim a 2-1 lead as Dan Wilson and Josh Hall defeated Bao Nguyen (Scranton, PA) and John Domider (Somerville, NJ).

Chilson evened things at 2-2 with a come-from-behind win at one-singles.  After dropping the first set to Gates 3-6, Chilston responded with a 6-2 and 6-1 wins in the second and third sets, respectively, to improve to 4-1 overall on the year as the Pacers' ace.  Bolus then put Marywood up 3-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Arnett at two-singles, and Marywood extended their lead to 4-2 with a Franzone win at three-singles.  However, the Pacers could not pick up the decisive point as the Eagles rallied to win at 4-6 singles.

At four-singles, after Marywood's Dan Reynolds was won the first set 7-5, Eastern's Dan Wilson responded with 6-4 and 6-3 wins in the second and third set to make it 4-3.  At six singles, Josh Hall defeated Domider 6-2, 6-0 to even the match at 4-4.  In the decisive game between Eastern's Sean McGuinness and the Pacers' Bao Nguyen, the duo split the first two sets with McGuinness earning a 6-4 win in the opener and Nguyen winning the second set 6-3.  With the match all-square, McGuinness squeeked out a 7-5 win over Nguyen to give Eastern the 5-4 win.

Marywood returns to action next Thursday when the Pacers open CSAC play by hosting Baptist Bible College at 3:00 pm.
