Marywood Falls to Lycoming in Non-Conference Play

Scranton, PA - Lycoming College scored nine straight goals in the first half and never looked back on their way to a 23-6 win over Marywood University in non-conference women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at the University of Scranton's Fitzpatrick Field. With the win, the Warriors leveled their record at 1-1 while the Pacers fall to 0-2 on the young season.

Sammi Jo Bell scored twice in the first 2:16 of the game to give Lycoming College the early two-goal lead. Taylor McKeown (Nashua, NH) responded cut the Warrior's lead in half after making a long run down the center of the field and scoring at the 25:31 mark.

Lycoming would respond in a big way, netting the next nine goals and building an 11-1 lead when Christi Karr scored with 4:23 to play in the opening half.

Marywood's Alexis Willey (Hummelstown, PA) tallied her first goal of the year just over a minute later and McKeown scored her second unassisted goal of the afternoon with 1:14 to play as the Pacers' sandwiched a pair of goals around a marker by Lycoming's Amanda Baker, as the visitors held a 12-3 halftime lead.

The Warriors opened the second 30 minutes of play with five consecutive goals before McKeown completed her hat-trick by converting a free-position shot with 20:04 to play.

Lycoming tacked on four more scores before the Pacers' Jen Silvestri (Warwick, NY) netted her first goal of the season. Allie Sodl (Coplay, PA) would close out Marywood's scoring by making good of a free-position opportunity with 5:50 remaining.

Justine Titko led the Warriors with seven points on two goals and five assists while Bell and Bri Robertson added four goals apiece for Lycoming. The Warriors held a commanding 47-19 edge in shots for the game and a 29-21 advantage in ground balls.

Lycoming's Brittany Bryan made six saves in the first half to get credited with the win while Libby Stoesz turned aside five Pacers' shots in the second period.

Marywood's Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) took the loss despite making 13 saves.

The Pacers will return to action this coming Thursday when they host Elmira College in a non-conference game scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
