BOX SCORE

Scranton, PA - Marywood University battled back from a early 7-2 deficit and battled sloppy conditions all afternoon as the Pacers rallied to collect their 15th win of the year with a 16-8 six-inning victory over visiting Cazenovia College Wednesday afternoon in Scranton. The second game of the originally scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to inclement weather and wet field conditions. Marywood improves to 15-6 on the year while the Wildcats fell to 2-7.

After Marywood took an early 2-1 lead after the first inning of play, Cazenovia grabbed a 7-2 lead with a six-run third. Marywood would get two runs back in the next two innings and then tack on five in the fifth and five more in the sixth to end the game. Both teams combined for seven errors on the day mostly due to sloppy conditions, while Marywood pitchers struggled to grip the wet ball and threw a combined seven wild pitches.

West Scranton graduate Ashley Dommes (Scranton, PA) finished the day 3-4 with an RBI while Riverside product Kaitlyn Brennan was 2-5 with three RBI. Brennan (Taylor, PA) got a double and also picked up the win on the mound after four innings of relief work. Brennan, who is now 5-1 on the year, struck out five and allowed just three hits and one earned run in four full innings.

Marywood starter Lauren Monaco (Carle Place, NY) went two innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out three. Colleen Regan (Endwell, NY) was 1-3 with a double and two RBI while freshman Melissa Brodt (Scranton, PA) hit a pinch-hit double in the sixth as she went 1-1.

For the Wildcats, Maureen Brosan took the loss with a 5.1 inning complete-game. She allowed 12 earned runs on 11 hits and had one strikeout. She helped her own cause at the plate with a 2-3, three RBI performance. Christine Nichols was 2-3 with three runs scored.

Marywood returns to action Sunday April 5th when they take on former conference rival Misericordia University. The doubleheader is slated for a 1:00 pm start in Dallas, Pennsylvania.
