13th-Ranked Keystone Takes Double from Marywood

Scranton, PA - Thirteenth-ranked Keystone College scored 39 runs on 39 hits as the visiting Giants cruised to two wins over host Marywood University Monday afternoon in CSAC baseball action. The Giants, who improved to 26-4 (8-0 CSAC), scored in all but one inning of game two. Marywood fell to 6-15 and remains winless in the CSAC at 0-5.

Keystone built a 12-0 lead in the opener before Marywood plated four in the sixth to break up the shutout, but the Giants added six more int he seventh for an 18-4 final. Sean Murphy improved to 5-0 on the year with eight strikeouts over five full innings. The junior allowed just three hits and did not allow a walk. Joe Tomachik was responsible for three earned runs on four hits over two innings. Ray Jackson went 2-4 with three RBI while Eric Groff was 1-4 with a homer.

Matt Newcomb (Honesdale, PA) had a triple as part of his 2-3, two-RBI performance for Marywood. Korey Evans (Goshen, NY) fell to 2-3 after going 3.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. Mike Siciliano (Whippany Park, NJ), Rick Clifford (Scranton, PA) and Josh Plisko (Moosic, PA) all saw time on the mound in game one for the Pacers.

In the nightcap, a Kyle Conrad second-inning grand-slam highlighted a five-run secodn and broke open a 3-3 deadlock and the Giants added eleven more runs over the next two innings to build a 19-3 lead. Brett Repard moved to 6-0 on the mound for the Giants, while Ryan Smith was 4-5 with a homer and four RBI to lead the Keystone offense. Josh Hinkle was 4-6 with three RBI, and Conrad was 2-5 with a homer and four RBI.

Alex Magid (South Salem, NY) fell to 1-2 on the year after allowing 10 earned runs on 10 hits over 2.1 innings. Plisko, Josh Stolan (Old Forge, PA) and Mike Paterno (Montclair, NJ) also pitched for Marywood. Newcomb was 1-3 with a double and two RBI in the nightcap.

Marywood and Keystone will conclude their regular season series with a nine-inning game in LaPlume tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
