Tennis Clinches Playoff Spot with 8-1 Win

LaPlume, PA - Greg Chilson and Tim Franzone each scored 6-0, 6-0 singles victories as Marywood snapped a four match skid as the Pacers beat host Keystone College 8-1 in men's tennis action Monday afternoon in LaPlume.  With the win, the Pacers improve to 5-8 and 3-3 in CSAC action while Keystone remains winless at 0-9 (0-6 CSAC).  More importantly, Marywood claimed the fourth and final playoff berth into next weekend's CSAC Team Championships.

Chilson (Mountainside, NJ) and Franzone (Staten Island, NY) won at one and three singles, respectively.  Evan Bolus (Clarks Summit, PA) allowed just one point in his 6-1, 6-0 win for Marywood while Dan Reynolds (Downsville, NY) and Juan Serrano (West Chester, PA) each won by 6-1, 6-1 scores at four and six singles play.  Bao Nguyen (Scranton, PA) defeated Robert Gilroy in a third set super-tiebreaker (6-1, 4-6, 10-8) as Marywood swept singles action. 

Keystone got their lone point with an 8-3 win at three-doubles, as Marywood won by 8-1 scores at one and two doubles. 

The Pacers close out the regular season Wednesday with a non-conference match at Alvernia College.  Match time is set for 3:00 pm.  Marywood will then meet top-seeded Neumann College in the first round of the CSAC Team Championships Saturday April 17 at the West End Racquet Club in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
