BOX SCORE

Scranton, PA – Pinch-hitter Michael Fasano provided Centenary College with his team's last four RBIs of the day as the Cyclones completed a come-from-behind win to escape Scranton with a 10-7 win over host Marywood University Friday afternoon. Fasano got a pinch-hit three-run homer in the eighth and provided the go-ahead run with a single in the ninth as the Cyclones improved to 11-16 (6-7 CSAC). Marywood dropped their eighth straight and fell to 6-17 (0-7 CSAC) with the loss.

Ryan Cusomato's RBI single opened the scoring in the bottom of the third as Marywood grabbed a 1-0 lead. Cusomato (Sparta, NJ) drove a ball through the infield gap over second, scoring teammate Joe Diskin (Clarks Summit, PA) all the way from second. Mike Castellano (Brooklyn, NY), who reached on a single of his own, scored on a passed ball later in the inning and Cusomato would put Marywood up 3-0 as he scored on a David Lewis (Scranton, PA) single to right.

Centenary would get two back in the top of the fourth as the Cyclones opened the inning with back-to-back doubles by Christopher Smith and Andrew Granozio. Granozio's two-bagger would score Smith, and a Marywood fielding error would then score Granozio all the way from second to make it a one-run game.

Marywood would reclaim a three-run lead (5-2) on three consecutive doubles to start the bottom half of the fifth. Cusomato would put the Pacers back up by two (4-2) with a RBI double down the right-field line to score Castellano, who had reached on a double of his own to open the inning. Matt Newcomb (Honesdale, PA) would follow Cusomato with a nearly identical double.

Granozio would get his second double of the day for the Cyclones in the top of the sixth and after moving to third on a wild pitch would score on a Michael Oneglia sacrifice fly to left. However, Marywood would get that run back in the bottom of the sixth as Ed Zakrzewski (Three Bridges, NJ) tripled to right-center and scored on a Jason Bugno (Clarks Summit, PA) sacrifice fly.

With runners on the corners and the Cyclones down 6-4 in the top of the eighth, pinch-hitter Michael Fasano blasted a three-run homer of the center-field fence to give the visitors their first lead of the game, 7-6. That lead would be short lived though, as Cyclone reliever Daniel Chapman would walk home the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth after coming in with the bases already loaded.

Fasano continued his heroics in the top of the ninth, getting a one-out RBI single to right to score the go-ahead run after a two-base throwing error put a runner at second.

For Marywood, Korey Evans (Goshen, NY) could not get a decision after six full innings of work on the mound. The senior lefty allowed two earned runs on four hits while striking out three. Alex Magid allowed four runs (three earned) in 1.1 innings, including Fasano's three-run shot. Josh Plisko (Moosic, PA) pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief of Magid (South Salem, NY) and Tim Freda (Westbury, NY) pitched the final inning for Marywood, allowing three unearned runs.

Chris Sisco went five-full for Centenary, allowing five runs on 10 hits while striking out five. Johnny Veninata pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and collecting three strikeouts. Daniel Chapman got two outs in the bottom of the eighth, and was not responsible for any of the runs allowed. Chapman was credited with the win, while Andrew Koncen got the save after getting three outs in relief of Chapman in the ninth.

Castellano and Cusomato each had three-hit days for the Pacers, while Newcomb and Czerw joined Castellano and Cusomato with doubles. Cusomato and Newcomb each pulled in a pair of RBI for Marywood.

Fasano was 2-2 with four RBI and two runs scored for Centenary, while Granozio wsa 3-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and an RBI.

The Pacers and Cyclones will finish their regular-season three-game set with a doubleheader tomorrow at noon in Hackettstown.
