Cook, Fitzsimmons Reach Milestones in Marywood Softball Sweep

Scranton, PA – Marywood University senior Erika Cook got her 200th-career hit and Head Coach Bob Fitzsimmons earned his 100th-career win as the Pacers swept a doubleheader from the College of Notre Dame in CSAC softball action Saturday afternoon in Scranton. Marywood, who won by scores of 10-0 and 11-0, improves to 21-8 (14-4 CSAC) while the Gators remain winless at 0-14 (0-12 CSAC).

Cook (Wyalusing, PA) would reach the milestone in the opener by beating out an infield single in the top of the second with the Pacers already ahead, 4-0. Cook would finish the opener 3-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Kim Flanagan (Monroe, NY) was 3-3 with a double and two RBI.

Lauren Monaco gave the Pacers their 20th win of the season with a strong performance on the mound, as the senior from Carle Place, New York struck out six in her complete-game effort. Monaco (2-0) allowed just three hits to earn her first shut-out of the year.

For game one, Jessie Godack took the loss on the mound for the Gators after allowing just three earned runs. Whitley Noel and Erika Brooks were each 1-2 at the plate for Notre Dame.

Senior Mallory Gable (Hughestown, PA) remained unbeaten on the mound and improved to 9-0 on the year for the Pacers with a win in the nightcap. Gable struck out nine on the day and allowed just one hit, which came off the bat of Noel.

Cook went 3-3 in the nightcap, including her first homer of the year as she legged out an inside the park homerun. Cook had a single in the first inning and a triple in the third, leaving her only a double short of completing the cycle. Kim Flanagan was 3-3 with three RBI.

Marywood returns to action with a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Wilkes University. First pitch in Scranton is set for 1:00 pm.
