Scranton, PA – Marywood University took a 4-2 win in the opener and got six unearned runs in one inning to rally for a 9-8 win in the nightcap as the Pacers took a non-conference doubleheader from Wilkes University Sunday afternoon in Scranton. Marywood improved to 23-8 with the wins while the Colonels fall to 15-17. Marywood senior Erika Cook, a day after reaching the 200-career hit milestone, tied the school's single-season triples record.  Cook now has nine triples on the season, equaling Hall of Famer Renee Jourdanais' school-record feat from 1995.  Cook has also tied Hall of Famer Rose (Kuchwara) Jacklinski's career record with 18 triples in her career.

After a RBI single from Gina Stefanelli gave Wilkes a 1-0 lead in the opener, Marywood's Erika Cook (Wyalusing, PA) answered with a triple to right center to start the bottom of the first and promptly scored on a Ashley Dommes (Scranton, PA) RBI single. Dommes would then sore on Kim Lope's (Clifton, NJ) single to center, as Marywood grabbed a 2-1 lead after one full inning of play. In the bottom of the second, Marywood expanded their lead to 3-1 as Kim Flanagan (Monroe, NY) scored as Cook grounded out to third.

Marywood would get a key insurance run in the sixth as a Jill Flanagan RBI single to center made it 4-1 in favor of the Pacers, as Wilkes would score one in the top of the seventh on a MeLisa Bracone RBI double to the left-centerfield fence.

Nikki Belles (Rome, PA) got the win on the mound for Marywood to even her record at 5-5 on the year. Belles struck out five over seven innings, including a big strikeout to cut a Wilkes sixth-inning rally attempt short as the junior left runners stranded on the corners. Maureen Pelot took the loss for Wilkes, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out five. Stefanelli finished the opener 2-3 with an RBI for the Colonels.

In the nightcap, Marywood grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the second as Kim Flanagan reached first on a RBI fielder's choice and a double steal attempt. Despite getting the base-runner going to second, Wilkes was unable to get Colleen Regan (Endwell, NY) as she advanced home on the throw to second. Wilkes would even things in the top of the third as Sarah Elliot started the rally with a triple and advanced home on a Bracone double to make it 2-1. Bracone would then tie the game at 2-2 as she advanced home on a Kristy Ordile single to center.

The Colonels went up 3-2 as Kathy Dalton tripled with one out in the fourth and came home on an Erin Plank grounder to short, just beating Caitlin Hadzimichalis' (Harmony, NJ) throw to the plate. Wilkes added two more in the fifth on a two-run double to right from Stefanelli. Cook would pick up her record tying triple, her second of the day, in the bottom of the fifth with two outs, and would cut the visitor's lead to 5-3 on a fielding error on Hadzimichalis' shot to short.

Marywood put runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the sixth and would tie the game as Kaitlyn Brennan (Taylor, PA) helped her own cause with an RBI single to left. On the ensuing return throw to the mound, an error allowed Regan to advance home as well, tying the game at 5-5. Jillian Flanagan (Monroe, NY) then ripped a RBI double to the left-center fence to give Marywood the lead once again, 6-5.

Marywood got an insurance run with two outs as pinch-runner Janessa Bednash (Mayfield, PA) advanced home on a wild-pitch by Wilkes reliever Kaitlyn Kormanick. Hadzimichalis would then give the Pacers a two-run cushion with an RBI double down the left-field line, scoring Cook from third. Dommes then put Marywood up 8-5 with a single to right center to score Hadzimichalis from third after the senior had advanced on a wild pitch.

Wilkes would make things interesting in the top of the seventh, getting two runs back on a RBI double from Ordile and a single from Dalton. Down 9-7 with two outs, the Colonels would plate another run on an RBI single to left but the third out would come on a rundown to end the game.

Brennan go the win on the mound, improving to 7-1 on the year. Kormanick fell to 1-4 on the year after taking the loss on the mound for Wilkes.

Marywood, who is now one win shy of tying the school record for most wins in a season (24), returns to the field this Wednesday with a 6:00 pm night game against the University of Scranton. The non-conference tilt will take place at Tripp Park.
