Pacers Fall to Royals in Regular Season Finale

Scranton, PA - Madelyn Sminkey scored five goals and Diana Rocklein netted the 100th goal of her collegiate career to lead the University of Scranton to an 18-6 victory over Marywood University in non-conference women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Field. With the win, the Royals improve to 7-5 while the Pacers close out their regular season with a 7-8 record.

Tied 1-1 just over six and a half minutes into Tuesday's game, Sminkey scored three goals during a four-minute stretch as Scranton built a 7-1 advantage with 15 minutes remaining in the first half.

Behind goals by Allie Sodl (Coplay, PA) and Taylor McKeown (Nashua, NH), Marywood battled back and trailed by only four, 7-3, before Erin Quinn scored three goals and Sminkey two during a 7-0 run in the final 13 minutes of the period to take a commanding 14-3 lead by intermission.

Katie Slade and McKeown trade goals early in the second half before the Royals scored two-straight goals to extend their lead to 17-4 lead midway through the period. Alanna Waldron (Liverpool, NY) got one back for the Pacers 8:25 to play and after another tally by the hosts, Sodl completed her hat-trick with an unassisted goal with 4:20 remaining

Scranton out-shot the Pacers 44-12 and won 17 of 26 draw controls while committing nine fewer turnovers than the Pacers.

Cassie Murphy went the distance in the University of Scranton's cage and made four saves to pick the win, while Pacer goalie Katie Sullivan (Merrick, NY) stopped 16 of the 34 shots she faced.

Marywood will make their postseason debut in CSAC Semifinal game next Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at  Gwynedd-Mercy College. The winners of Wednesday's semifinal games will advance to the CSAC Final to be played at the site of the highest remaining seed on Saturday, May 2nd.
